HSBC US
website redesign

HSBC US is not a general retail bank. It serves people whose money crosses borders. This concept reorganises the site around that single fact, and keeps the brand's red rationed the way the brand rations it.

01 / Overview

Premier checking, global transfers, US mortgages for foreigners, accounts you can open before you arrive. The value is international. The current navigation buries it inside a conventional banking menu.

This concept promotes the cross-border story to the top of the homepage, gives the product pages a comparison structure, and treats the long regulatory disclosures as content to be designed rather than hidden. The palette, ratio and voice stay as they are.

Red is a signal, not a surface

HSBC red is recognisable because it appears in small quantities against white. The concept keeps that: red for the mark, the section rules and one action per screen. Structure is carried by black type and light grey.

The mark, and the geometry it gives the system: bullets and panel cuts, never decoration
HSBC
The mark's facing triangles become a corner cut on hero panels and a bullet on lists. That is the only ornamental move in the system.
03 / Principles
Lead with the border
Global transfers, overseas accounts and mortgages for foreign nationals move to the top. That is what this bank does that others cannot.
One red action
Exactly one filled red button per screen. Secondary actions are black outlines; tertiary are text links with a red underline.
Disclosures are content
FDIC, FINRA and cross-border notices are set at 14px in a designed block, not shrunk to grey mush at the bottom of the page.
Compare, do not pitch
Where there are three savings products, there is a table with rates, minimums and terms, in one view, at body size.
04 / Homepage

Where does your money need to be?

The hero asks the question this bank is built to answer, then splits into three situations: arriving in the US, living here with money abroad, and investing across both. Products follow from the situation.

Three savings products, one table

The site already offers a compare page. This concept makes the table the page: rate, minimum, term and the relationship requirement, side by side, with the disclosure directly beneath rather than a click away.
